'For Those with Eyes to See'
by Troy Blackford
But she was peeved now. A set of ceramic craft eyes--usually referred to by non-crafters as ‘googly eyes’--she had ordered from an online shop weeks ago still hadn’t arrived. Magdalene had waited one extra week over the seller’s maximum shipping time before deciding to write. Magdalene selected this woman, who handcrafted each eye, out of a large pool of potential suppliers on the basis of her many positive online reviews. Her customers all insisted this woman couldn’t be beat by any other eye-maker on the market.
On the basis of this merchant’s customer service reputation, Magdalene expected her polite e-mail to elicit an instantaneous response brimming with apologies and packed with assurances. No such e-mail ever came, nor did she receive any response whatsoever, nor to several further messages. As weeks wore on, Magdalene’s confusion coalesced into the mild form of displeasure that counted, for her, as ‘fury.’
Only one choice remained: public shaming.
Will this be a smart course of action, or will Magdalene regret her negative feedback? Find out in the short story collection 'For Those With Eyes to See' in Kindle and Paperback!

Hook, line and Sinker...Loved it! I was reeled in and I laughed at the end! ~Bravo!
ReplyDeleteSo spooky!! I'll never look at googly eyes without a shiver again!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I thoroughly enjoyed this. The whole time I kept thinking the heroine was having a dream. Perfect Halloween story. Creepy with a humorous ending.
ReplyDeleteBwaa ha ha!
ReplyDeleteLoved it! I'll never look at googly eyes the same way again... 0_0
Really liked this. Spooky and funny.
ReplyDeleteAwww...Liked very much, but the truly killer ending would have been to cut it at "wait 12 hours..." LOL
ReplyDeleteCertainly going to think more than twice about giving any kind of negative feedback ever again!
ReplyDeleteHa! Delightful.
ReplyDeleteThis was a GREAT story, Troy! I saw the link to it on Twitter and decided to come check it out. I'm so glad I did! Excellent buildup of suspense, strong character development, and funny ending. I loved the SNL reference, LOL. Amazing work!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely weird but very entertaining, LOL. Couldn't help but think of Christopher Walken's SNL skit.
ReplyDeleteA very entertaining story, Troy!
ReplyDeleteDoes it make me think twice about giving anyone a bad review on an on-line shopping website? No!
Will i be giving you a bad review? Hell, no!
I think an added shock factor to the end of this story would be to use an animated .GIF to show a pair of jiggling googly eyes.
THAT would be a pant-wetting closer!
Bravo! A consistent style and good pacing. A fantastic quick read! Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Another good one!
ReplyDeleteOh, my. I don't think I'll be visiting any craft stores any time soon. Googly eyes! Oh, my!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite lines: a nigh-on-instantaneous e-mail brimming with apologies
I enjoyed that too, very surreal.
ReplyDeleteI was just not expecting this but it was FANTASTIC!
ReplyDeleteExquisitely woven story. And the ending was something I empathized with.
ReplyDeleteYou are one crazy cat. Loved it and will soon put all googly eyes in a locked box. ;)
