I have decided not to name any of my blog posts anything rational... for now.
I am having a pretty exciting week: got a story picked up 'Black Oak Presents' for their Fall issue, September 1st, 2010. Copies are $3.50 and you can bet I will be heavily trying to get people to get a copy. I feel much more strongly about promoting this review - they took a chance on including me and selected me and I feel it is my job not to let them down.
So this is the first story I've had published by someone other than me! 'Birds on Glass' is the piece, and it is a brief (3,150 word) tale set in downtown Minneapolis among our unique skyway structure. Sort of a psychological thriller, it centers on a young man named Randy and his conviction that society has become far too material. His way of remedying the problem might not go over so well with everybody else, let's put it that way.
So now one of the stories from my collection is finding a home! I am pleased as punch about this. I've been working on the latest story every day, and it is now well into novella length. It will undoubtedly be the longest piece of the book - and I am very proud about it. It is called 'Brilliant Story' and has a rather large number of autobiographical elements... but of course wedded to extremely uncommon events and arranged in a thrilling way. Hopefully you might enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed writing it!
I expect my collection to be out by the end of September, and then I will turn my attention back to the second novel - very nascent right now, but with a lot of potential. Hopefully this 'foot in the door' of a story getting picked up will lead to some of the others (almost all of which are much better than "Birds on Glass") finding a home.
That is all for now.
